End of the Year Fun!!

Mrs. James' class teamed up with us to do an end of the year science project.  Groups of students had to design and build a container that would keep ice cool and slow down its melting.  The students enjoyed it very much and the teachers were impressed with their cooperation and creativity.

Which soil absorbs water the best?

Clay absorb the most water than loam,and sand because clay hold the water on top.-Luisg

when i felt the soils they were wet and the clay was the stikeest  it dosent look stiky but it is. Giselle

What happens when soil settles?

When this cup settles it stays still then the loam broke into little peaces of loam the sand was at the bottom it had little particles the clay was in the middle some of the clay broke into little peaces to then all of the different  kinds of soil settled  -Odoll

When soil settles the water is not moving and the soil is not moving too -Emanuel

We let gravel settle in a cup of water.

The next day we look at it.

I saw grass on the top.

My friend saw the water was all foge-AUSTIN

When  the  soil  settles  it  goes  flat on the bottom with  loam,clay,and sand goes on the bottom too and  they block the  water.  -Emmi

Pet Rocks

As a lesson extension from our rocks unit, students got to be creative and invent pets and animals out of ordinary rocks that they found.  


Students shared a story that they created with their pet rock as the main character.

Rock Stories

Students were learning about rocks, how they formed, what they are made of and how they are used.  They have also begun learning about how to organize their writing when writing fiction and non fiction.  Here are stories, poems, and songs from students about a particular rock that they pick

In Eddy's School we were studying about rocks.  We has to have a rocks but nobody picked Johnny.  Then Eddy picked up Johnny and that's when he call him Johnny.  And they did experiments on Johnny.  And they has to break open there rock.  But Eddy didn't want to break Johnny.  So Eddy put Johnny in his pocket.  And he took him home.  And he played with him.  So he kept him.

The Little Black Rock
Once upon a time their was a rock, a little, blcak, smart rock her name was Carol.  Carol was strolling around the back yard, suddenly a cry for help.  
"Help!"
She looked left, then right...O man, Murtle!  Carol ran to the beach, jumped in.  
"PSHH" "Uh, uh!" "PSHH!" "M-Murt-t-t-l-e." 
Murtle the turtle was in!  She was a 95 mile per hour swimmer.  She snatched Carol in fine minutes.  Later Murtle returned to land. Carol Said "OMG are you OK?"

ROCKS ROCK!!

Students observing how water effects rocks (erosion).  They have rocks they observe and record the changes they see everyday after they shake them in a container of water.

Guest Speaker-Water Pollution

Our students had a guest speak from out own Storm Lake today.  They learned about how our lake gets polluted and how that affects the fish in the lake.  They finished the presentation with a craft activity.
